 Johanna Riddle ART

"Everything in the universe has a rhythm.
 Everything dances."
                 --MAYA ANGELOU

The magic of art lies in its ability to form a kinship between the viewer and the artist.  In that spark of connection, two worlds and perspectives merge. I create a world that expresses my thoughts, my experiences, my dreams, my world. You make fresh interpretations, discover intricate details, layer your own life experiences over the image. A richer story is born. You lend a fresh voice to a never-ending tale that ultimately becomes a piece of your own story.

As you collect this work and make it a part of your world, may it remind you that there is always a part of you waiting to be discovered, always a new story waiting to be written and revealed.

The Peace of Wild Things
Mixed Media Collage
24 x 36 with cold wax overlay

The Peace of Wild Things is directly inspired by the poetry of Wendell Berry, and is relative to my deep connections and reverence for the natural world.

When despair for the world grows within me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time,
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
